Focus Laser by Picosure
Melasma or "Mask of Pregnancy"
Melasma is a common acquired disorder of skin hyperpigmentation that characteristically presents with symmetric brown macules, or flat lesions, and patches on the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. This is mostly found on females in child bearing years such as our patient above.
The way that Melasma normally appears is a combination of many factors such as sun exposure, hormonal influences, thyroid disease, and family history. It can be so bothersome for many people and usually requires a multi-factorial approach to solving the problem. Topical agents such as hydroquinone, sunscreen, and many others are usually recommended. Chemical peels and laser treatments are recommended as well. Not all lasers and chemicals are good for these types of patients and many times can and will make the problem worse. See your dermatologist for more information.
At Physicians' Aesthetics we are proud to introduce the Focus laser by Cynosure. It uses a pulse that results in little to no inflammation to the skin while attacking the pigment in question. As you can see from our patient above a remarkable improvement after this one treatment. Normally we recommend a series of 3 to 4.
