Tattoo Removal
Tattoo Removal is a safe and easy minimal procedure with the new PressureWaveTM Technology from Picosure. While most lasers use heat to melt the ink particles or melanin in the skin, our laser uses energy to rapidly pulse the skin causing the ink particles to burst and disburse. Picosure tattoo removal treats all colors and all skin types. This is the first laser to deeply and effectively treat blue and green ink, hard to remove black ink, and previously treated or older ink.
The Procedure
After a thorough consultation with our medical team, a package of 2-10 treatments will be provided depending on the depth, color, placement, and length of time you have had the tattoo. The wavelengths used to treat the pigment are 532nm, 755nm, and 1064nm and will be determined prior to your procedure. A snap of a rubber band is how many describe the feeling during the removal process. Due to the lack of heat, many experience minimal to no redness, blistering, or downtime after each treatment. Sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 should be applied to the treatment area as needed throughout series of tattoo removal. It is recommended that treatments are scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart.
Tattoo Removal Q&A
Tattoo removal is a procedure done to try to remove an unwanted tattoo. Common techniques used for tattoo removal include laser surgery, surgical removal and dermabrasion.
Tattoo ink is placed beneath the top layer of the skin. That makes tattoo removal more complicated than the original tattoo application.
Q: Can a tattoo be removed completely?
A: In many cases, certain colors may be more effectively removed than others. Blue and black tattoos, for example, respond well to laser treatment. Colors like yellow, red, and white are harder to remove.
Q: How painful is tattoo removal?
A: Depending on what type of tattoo removal you choose, there may be varying levels of pain or discomfort. Some people say that removal feels the same as getting a tattoo, while others liken it to the feeling of a rubber band being snapped against their skin. Your skin may be sore after the procedure.
Q: Will tattoo removal leave a scar?
A: As mentioned, it's uncommon for tattoo removals to leave scars when performed by a professional at the correct intensity. Sometimes, people will notice a scar after their removal, though the scar is often from the tattoo, where the artist penetrated too deeply into the skin.
Q: How many sessions does it take to remove tattoo?
A: The timeline of this treatment varies greatly from person to person, but most clients need between six and twelve sessions to completely remove a tattoo.
Q: What techniques are available for tattoo removal?
A: -Dermabrasion (“sanding” away the top layer of skin using a motorized wire brush or abrader).
- Ablative (non-tattoo) lasers that burn off the entire top layer of skin.
- Surgical removal of the tattooed skin.
